Historica Foundation SA is a non-commercial organisation registered in Estonia, dedicated to building an open, AI-powered digital model of human history accessible through a public interactive map. As an independent, non-profit initiative, we do not generate commercial revenue – our progress relies on the generosity of supporters. By contributing, you directly help us continue developing this free educational resource for everyone.
Why Your Support Matters
Your donation is vital to keep Historica growing and improving. We allocate contributions toward key operational needs, including:
- Historical Data Acquisition: Obtaining, digitising, and integrating historical records and datasets to enrich our model.
- Technical Infrastructure: Maintaining servers, software, and AI tools that power the interactive map and ensure a smooth user experience.
- Content Development: Researching and creating educational content – from accurate historical mappings to articles – that populates the platform.
Every contribution helps cover these core expenses, enabling us to advance the project’s academic and public mission. (At this stage, we do not run any micro-grant programmes or external funding schemes – all donations are invested directly into Historica’s internal development.)
Transparency and Accountability
We are committed to full transparency in how we use your support. While we strive to channel as much funding as possible into our historical model and content, not all donated funds go exclusively to programme costs. A portion of donations is used for essential operational expenses – for example, banking fees, basic administration, and ensuring our technical infrastructure remains online and secure. We maintain modest overheads and continuously work to maximise the impact of every donated euro on our core mission.
As a newly established organisation, we have not yet published annual financial statements or impact reports. We understand that donors value accountability, and we are working towards releasing our first annual reports as soon as practicable. In the meantime, please know that we carefully track all expenditures and uphold strict oversight of our budget. We appreciate your trust and will provide public reporting of our finances and project impact once those documents are available.
How Your Donation is Processed
Your online donation will be handled securely by our payment processing partner. All donations are processed by Maksekeskus AS, a licensed payment service provider. This means your payment is first received by Maksekeskus and then transferred to Historica’s account. When you donate, Maksekeskus will collect the necessary payment details (such as your card information and contact data) to complete the transaction. Historica Foundation SA remains the data controller for your donation, and we share your personal data only with our authorised processor (Maksekeskus) and solely for the purpose of processing your donation in compliance with applicable data protection laws.
For transparency, we encourage you to review our Privacy Policy before donating. By proceeding with a donation, you consent to your payment information being handled by Maksekeskus in accordance with their secure protocols. Historica does not store your card details on our servers, and all communication with the payment provider is encrypted and safe.
